Best Sunset in Hip Hop

As I, Kyle Rapps, was travelling India in the state of Orissa….     This sunset had me thinking about the careers of Emcees in their twilight.  International icons like KRS-One who have found a way to diversify his name into the education world, and heros like Masta-Ace and Rakim who dusted off their rhyme books and staged incredible comebacks (Disposable Arts) (the 18th Letter) around the turn of the millennium…. Underground champs like EL P who turned his notoriety into a groundbreaking record label (Def Jux)…  Late-bloomers like MF Doom who completely flipped his persona into a masked villain celebrated by hipsters and backpackers around the globe…  Is there a shelf life on rapping? or will the senior citizen centers of 2040 be adorned with studio equipment and shuffleboard ciphers?

This was me in full prince gear, right before the wedding in Calcutta.   The affair was pure hip hop….In the middle of the vows a call to prayer blasted from a mosque around the way, followed by an anti-mosquito zamboni driving up the alleyway and filling the entire backyard with noxious smoke.    The bride and groom adapted like the nicest of emcees when any elements at a live show act up.

As I lamp in Kolkata, India…Where you get more color on the streets in 2 minutes than most folks see in a lifetime… I think about what type of colors will add to the spectrum of Rap music.      Corey Guns (Peter Gun’s son) has immerged having recently singed to Young Money Entertainment, with a feature verse on this Lil Wayne single “6’7””   A solid offering from a true-spitter…some fresh brush strokes for the mainstream.   Produced by Bangladesh….the closest major city to where I, Kyle Rapps, am currently posted up like Amare.

This is straight up hustler food.   In India dudes on the street flip these bean, veggies, and spice jumpoffs, smack em on a leaf-plate and push mass quantities.   Flavorrrr!  But make sure the stand u cop from is lookin up to par or you gon catch that Vishnu’s revenge.

Needless to say i passed on this one.   But my man is def pondering it.
